Who are we?
Lions Club of Rye:
We are a community not-for-profit group of people located in Rye on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. We are men and women who simply want to be involved to make our community a better place to live. Lions enjoy social interaction within the club leading to new and lasting friendships.
Our main focus is to serve our local community. We also assist neighbouring communities and help with medical research, disaster relief and other humanitarian projects around Australia and Internationally.
Constitutionally all monies generated through our activities as Lions Members are to be used for Charitable concerns so when you purchase that sausage at Bunnings the money paid will pay for the sausage, bread, sauce with the vast majority going towards the Charity on the day. Your ticket purchase in the annual boat raffle goes towards the cost of the boat (which is heavily supported by our sponsors) and some petrol to tow the boat to selling locations. Last year we generated over $60,000 from the boat raffle. See how we used the funds in the donations below.
Lions Australia:
Lions Australia has a proud history of achievement in Disaster and Emergency Relief, Medical Research and Community Service. We were at the coalface for Cyclone Tracy, the Black Saturday bushfires and the Queensland floods.
We were involved with the development of the bionic ear and the cervical cancer vaccine Gardisil, developed by Prof Ian Frazer AC, a former Lions Medical Research Foundation Fellow. We also inspired a young Fred Hollows and continue to provide funding for a range of other research initiatives involving diabetes and autism.
We assist with local community fundraising for special causes and help with development and building of local parks, community venues and sporting centres.
Lions International:
Purposes:
- TO ORGANIZE, charter and supervise service clubs to be known as Lions clubs.
- TO COORDINATE the activities and standardize the administration of Lions clubs.
- TO CREATE and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world.
- TO PROMOTE the principles of good government and good citizenship.
- TO TAKE an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community.
- TO UNITE the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding.
- TO PROVIDE a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided, however, that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by club members.
- TO ENCOURAGE service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward, and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavors.
